Adib Nehme

Adib Nehme is a consultant and expert on development and socio-economic policies and poverty. He is currently the Senior Policy Advisor for Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), and an independent consultant on development issues.

He worked as a regional advisor on Agenda 2030 and SDGs, at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), based in Beirut between 2009 and 2018, and worked previously with ECSCWA as regional advisor on governance, poverty, MDGs and social statistics.  He worked as a consultant with UNDP Beirut Office between 1995 and 2005 and project manager for poverty reduction policies with Ministry of Social Affairs, then joined the regional UNDP office (SURF-As) as policy advisor for poverty reduction in 2005, before moving to ESCWA in July 2009.

He holds a DEA in Sociology, and BA in Philosophy and Law and he is a registered lawyer.

He has a much diversified working experience: consultancy and research in various social and developmental issues, National Dialogue and transition, MDGs, multidimensional poverty, and training, and he is a CSO activist and has experience in journalism. He worked with all development partners (governments, NGOs, international organizations including many WB and many UN agencies).

He took part in many international and regional conferences, and prepared or contributed to the preparation of national and regional reports. Has many publications (books, reports, papers, articles), covering a broad variety of development topics, including human development reports and Millennium Development Goals in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Bahrain; training manuals on national Millennium Development Goals, local development and MDGs and SDGs, women's empowerment and a guide for parliamentarians. He coordinated the work of the Arab adolescent girl report in 2003 and coordinated the preparation and writing of the first report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Lebanon (1998-2003). He contributed to the report of Lebanon in Copenhagen Summit and to the regional reports of the Arab NGOs for Development. Moreover, he delivered dozens of training courses in various fields.

Adib Nehme contributed to design of a multi dimensional poverty index using UBN approach, since 1998; managed the implementation of the index and the production of UBN reports in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and a regional report covering 7 countries between 1998-2008. He designed as well an Urban Deprivation Index that was implemented in the city of Tripoli, between 2011 and 2014. 

M. Nehme facilitated the civil society Lebanese Palestinian forum in Lebanon, and was member of the facilitation team of the Lebanese Palestinian Dialogue Committee under prime minster office, and supervised to the production of two comprehensive books on the situation pf Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, and was member of the advisodry committee to the Palestinian Refugees census in Lebanon in 2017.  

 

He published recently two books: “the Neopatrimonial State and the Arab Spring” (2014), and “Arab Popular Solidarity: from the Nahda to the Arab Spring” (2016).

 

He is a Lebanese national, born in 1956.
