Baudouin Dupret

Baudouin Dupret is educated in Law, Islamic Sciences and Political Sciences. He is Research Director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). He worked for 8 years in Egypt (1995-2003), 4 years in Syria (2003-2007) and 5 years in Morocco (2010-2015) where he run the Jacques-Berque Centre . He is based at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris. He is also guest lecturer in Islamic law and socio-legal sciences at the University of Louvain. Baudouin Dupret has published extensively in the field of the sociology and anthropology of law, legislation and non-legal normativities, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, and in relation to Islam.

He has authored a large number of articles and books including The Sharia, From sources to practice, a plural concept (2014) and “The Concept of Law: A Wittgensteinian Approach with Some Ethno-methodological Specifications” (2014).
